How many times has your team participated in the event?
7 times, 2019 is the 8th time.
What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?
Our entire car is designed based on the choice for a GaAs solar panel with shingled solar cells, and of course to handle all the forces that will be applied on the car. This results in mechanical and structural parts of the car which fit into the aero shape. Our philosophy is to build a car as efficient as possible, which is just strong enough. We push ourselves to the edge because the challenge triggers innovation, also on a sustainable level.
What is unique about your solar car?
Of course the fact that our car is red! Furthermore, RED E is the smallest and most compact solar car we have ever designed and built. Because of this, our entire suspension and solar panel are new and unique. The suspension is quite small and the fact that we shingle our GaAs solar cells is new. We also developed our entire electrical system ourselves, which is quite unique. For example, we built our own motor and motor controller (which is new this edition).
Why does your team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?
We want to show the world the importance and impact of solar powered systems. The philosophy behind the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge fits this dream perfectly. Together with all the other teams, we can make an impact in the world by showing the dedication and passion of our people about innovation, cars and sustainability.
What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?
Meeting new people and get to know everyone! Making great memories and enjoying the experience of your lifetime.
