How many times has your team participated in the event?

The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2019 is the second participation.

What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?

We designed our Covestro Sonnenwagen to be as efficient as possible. We therefore oriented towards two basic principles. One is the reduction of front area to reduce pressure drag and the second is sailing. Thus, we ended with a very narrow design which may convert side winds to drag reduction and energy savings when cruising towards Adelaide.

What is unique about your solar car?

We not only incorporated the idea of using side winds by means of sailing, but we are also able to increase the sailing effects by a four-wheel steering system where the rear wheels can turn in the same or the opposite direction as the front wheels. Thus, the whole structure can be tilted sidewards to increase the sailing effects.
Furthermore, our own developed motor has unique efficiency ratings, as well as a temperature stability twice the value we had 2017.

Why does your team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?

We love the community, seek the adventure of crossing the continent without any recharge or fossil fuel consumption of our solar car and are eager to challenge our concepts with the ones of all the other teams participating. That platform increases the impact each team makes by building their own car and gives the vision for sustainable mobility and efficient energy consumption a stage beyond each teams ability.

What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?

The adventure with all the other solar car teams. There is no such experience as crossing Australia with 53 teams from all over the world. Challenging each other, as well as helping all to make it through to Adelaide is a great adventure we are so much looking forward to.
