How many times has your team participated in the event?

SER have participated in the 2011 and 2013 WSC events, and have then been racing in Abu Dhabi, Belgium, the US and South Africa.

What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?

Efficiency, simplicity, hand-made :-)

Our car SER-3 is a logical progression of the previous cars SER-1 and SER-2, considering the change to 4m2 for c-Si arrays and other new technical regulations. Focus was on lightweight and simple reliable mechanical solutions, as the car was desgned and built by apprentices, without sophisticated production tools and very limited outside help.

What is unique about your solar car?

Not a monohull and not a catamaran.

As mentioned, the SER-3 car is an organic progression of the previous cars, making good use of, for example, a few existing moulds for composites. The car is basically a combination of a monohull for the driver with a boom carrying the PV array and the leftside wheels, which should give good lateral stability.

Why does your team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?

Unique opportunity for a young team to meet and compete with peers from around the world.

We have run an apprentice program for almost ten years now and are at about Team Generation #5. For the girls and boys, it is a unique opportunity to top their engagement with a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Downunder.

What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?

The Aussie Barbie.

And obviously the fantastic combination of nature, meeting of teams from all over the world, and Australian hospitality!
