SASVA
How many times has your team participated in the event?
2023 is our second event. The first with this new vehicle Sun Sprite. We have some members with over 20yrs history of solar vehicle competition.
What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?
The design philosophy for Sun Sprite is small, safe, reliable, efficient and good looks. The name reflects the source and speed of solar emission
What is unique about your solar car?
70% of Sun Sprite is built from re-purposed parts from previous solar cars: the suspension, wheels, steering, brakes, motor, controller, BMS, the battery cells (after testing their state of health by recently putting them through 3 charge – discharge cycles), cabling, and carbon fibre panels repurposed as frames to shape the body.
Why does your team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?
SASVA coined the term ‘adventure engineering’ to describe our passion for the adventure of meeting the challenge to build a team and a vehicle to match the high demands of traversing our wonderful continent in this event.
Each of our crew find the two year cycle of preparation and competition to be a life changing experience. Younger members have seen their careers soar, having developed and demonstrated multiple skills and personal attributes during the campaign. We all enjoy the growth of friendships in the team and with our respected competitors.
What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?
We are grateful that we reside in Australia and have high respect for the extra efforts required by other teams coming to our country.
SASVA crew look forward to networking and friendships with other teams.
