Big energy. Big adventure. BWSC at science alive! 2024

The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, (BWSC), will be bringing its positive energy for a sustainable future to this year’s Science Alive! The electrifying program powers up tomorrow with a STEM Engagement Day ahead of a weekend of discovery and exploration into the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Visitors to the interactive BWSC exhibit will have the chance learn what it’s like to compete in the world’s largest solar challenge from teams who have pushed the boundaries of sustainable travel, testing cutting edge technology in this ultimate 3,000-kilometre outback adventure across Australia.

Meet the Adelaide University Solar Racing Team, strengthened ahead of the merger between the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia, see their car Lumen II that competed in last year’s BWSC, and hear about their plans to design and build their new solar car to take on the rest of the world.

The AUSRT team will be joined by The South Australian Solar Vehicle Association, a collaborative team of past TAFE lecturers, technical college teachers and students, with their new BWSC 2025 entry, Sun Sprite.

BWSC Ambassador, Chris Selwood AM, said the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge interactive exhibit at Science Alive! is an opportunity for young South Australian talent to hear firsthand where the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge can take you.

‘The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge opens a multitude of career doors for next generation innovators, and its global alumni network is far reaching. I continue to be astounded by the depth creativity and innovative thinking each cohort of competitors brings to the event, and inspired by the passion for a better future that we all share, ‘Chris said.
