Solar cars are powered by the sunlight they collect as they drive from Darwin to Adelaide. How much sunlight are they likely to collect?

Solcast is providing 7-day forecasts of solar irradiance for 1500 locations along the route, and these forecasts can be updated throughout each day. The image below shows the solar forecasts for today and the following 5 days, from Sunday to Friday. We are expecting some clouds from Barrow Creek to Erldunda on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday.

The faster teams may get ahead of this, but then encounter clouds south of Port Augusta. The team strategists will be taking this into account as they plan their trip to Adelaide.
