How many times has your team participated in the event?

This is our first time, let's ace it! (Thanks to the continuous and generous support and experience of the Solar Energy Racers, who represented Switzerland four times from 2011-2019).

What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?

Our first car combines technologies with the highest potential for winning the race. We opted for composite structural materials for the chassis and aeroshell for performance reasons, and added key innovations to it like our battery and wheel doors. There are many tricks and details we will test to maximize the experience gained during our first challenge for future aCe generations. We converged on a slim monohull design that reduces vortex formation as much as possible.

What is unique about your solar car?

Switzerland might be small, but we use solar cells based on a heterojunction technology that originates from our country! We are proud to feature materials that came to life in the science labs of our university, ETH Zurich. Our car features a wheel door as well, something even the best teams have not dared to try in recent times. Also, the battery pack can be dragged out of the car in a few seconds to save the car in case of a thermal runaway.

Why does your team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?

It is our honor to follow in the footsteps of those Swiss people who represented our nation at the very first WSCs. Solar Racing originated in Switzerland in 1985, it is time for us to come back to Australia and become a part of this collaborative and inspiring community, joining the many student teams that assemble here to prove the feasibility of their innovations under the harshest conditions. We want to contribute to this global effort and have a really good time with everyone while doing so.

What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?

Australia is a vast country with beautiful landscapes and an intriguing nature. As Europeans, it will be an eye-opening experience seeing such a drastically different flora and fauna than we are used to.
