Blue Sky Solar Racing

How many times has your team participated in the event?

Blue Sky Solar has participated in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 7 times since 2001. The team has consistently competed in the challenger class and has also raced in the adventure class. Blue Sky is looking forward to competing in our 8th year in the challenger class!

What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?

Blue Sky Solar Racing is a team of undergraduate students who strive to push the limits of sustainable vehicle design, while also providing valuable learning and technical training opportunities in the process. For Blue Sky, the World Solar Challenge marks the ultimate culmination of multiple intense years of hard work. The team pushes each other to create the most optimized solutions for each component and system of the car. From training new recruits to testing our cars on the road, each World Solar Challenge completed is a testament to the passion of our team.

What is unique about your solar car?

Borealis is the most advanced vehicle that Blue Sky has built in the past twenty years. With our bullet style aerobody, we have created our most efficient aerobody to date with the lowest CdA that the team has achieved yet. Our team has also been able to fabricate an almost fully clear canopy which will create transparent vision for the driver. Blue Sky is looking forward to participating with our most optimized vehicle since the team was established.

Why does your team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?

The team values participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge as it gives students a goal and motive to push the limits of sustainable technology in vehicle design. The BWSC is one of the most unique competitions that puts the engineering skills of students to the test and allows us to explore new technologies and skills. Participating in this competition also gives the team an opportunity to see how other teams innovate and improve their previous designs in their own unique way.

What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?

Blue Sky is most looking forward to being able to travel from Darwin to Adelaide and explore the multitude of destinations throughout our journey. The beauty of the Australian outback is unmatched and not many who visit the country are able to enjoy the nature and wildlife to its fullest.
