How many times has your team participated in the event?
Our team has participated once, in the 2019 event. When the 2021 race was cancelled due to the pandemic, we participated in the Moroccan Solar Challange in 2021.
What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?
Our car, Allsvinn, is using the so called "bullet" design, with 3 wheels. We believe this concept is the right balance between having an aerodynamic, stable and light car that is practical during manufacturing as well. Our car uses a steel frame instead of a carbon fiber monocoque, since we believe a well-designed steel frame can be just as light and easier to manufacture.
What is unique about your solar car?
Our solar car and solar team is run entirely by students who study full time. We have the responsibility and freedom to organize our team how we want. Aside from that, we pride ourselves on taking all the manufacturing into our own hands. This includes welding the frame, milling components, doing carbon fiber lay-ups, welding battery cells.
Why does your team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?
The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge brings a lot of value to all members of our team. First and foremost, we gain a lot of engineering skills by bringing our knowledge into practice by actually designing, manufacturing and testing a solar-powered car. Outside of that, since the whole team is run by students, we gain a lot of experience on how to manage projects, people and deadlines. This added value can be applied to anything our team members will do in their futures.
What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?
We look forward to seeing our project come to life and finally racing Allsvinn through the Australian outback. It will also be very exciting to see the cars of all the other teams and the designs and solutions they have come up with.
