10: Tokai University Solar Car Team
About The Team
How many times has your team participated in the event?
We started to participate in 1993 and have taken part in the challenge 10 times so far. Our participation in 2025 will be our 11th challenge.
What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?
Our solar car is designed based on one principle: robust, simple, and innovation. We prioritised performance, reliability, and durability compared to appearance. We built our solar car not only to reach the finish line of the world’s most demanding 3,000 km challenges across the Australian outback, but to utilise the limited solar energy and realise high efficiency solar car by balancing and compromising endurance, robustness, energy optimization, structural strength, and performance.
What is unique about your solar car?
The design philosophy of our solar car was based on sophisticated aerodynamics. That is unique and an advantage point compared to other teams.
By applying advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) integrated with the AI technology, we realised the reduction of drag force.
Furthermore, the developed turbulent vortex suppression blade and aerodynamic devices could significantly reduce the drag force by controlling the vortices.
This integration of cutting-edge digital simulation technology and real-world physical design realized high aerodynamic stability required for long-distance solar car challenge and improvement of energy efficiency that is important considering the low energy generated by sun.
Why does youre team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?
We are confident that participating in the world's largest solar car challenge will provide us with unparalleled experience and invaluable learnings. Interacting with numerous engineers from all over the world will definitely create moments of profound significance for us.
What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?
Australia boasts a diverse range of landscapes, from deserts to tropical rainforests and stunning coastlines. We are genuinely excited to the challenge amidst this beautiful nature, which is so different from Japan.
