RAA & Top gun Teams Back To Drive The Future

Bridgestone World Solar Challenge
14 July 2025
As international top gun teams touch down in Adelaide ahead of this year’s Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, leading advocate for sustainable mobility RAA, announces the return of the RAA EV Drive Experience, from 29 – 31 August.
BWSC Event Ambassador, Chris Selwood AM, said the RAA partnership offers South Australians the chance to explore one of the largest, in-market, electric vehicle displays in Adelaide, and test drive the very latest EVs in the Australian market.
“The BWSC is the ultimate proving ground for EVs and charging technology. By working together with RAA, we can help give people a first-hand look at the best of the best EV options today, some likely running technology developed by BWSC alumni,” Mr Selwood said.
“Thanks to RAA, and supporting partners Eagers Automotive and Smart, those getting behind the wheel of an EV for the first time, or thinking of upgrading, will be spoilt for choice with brands available to drive including BYD, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, BMW, Mini, MG, and Ford.
Registrations open today for South Aussies to book their free city test-drives across 14 different EV’s.
“RAA’s EV and energy experts will also be on hand at the RAA EV Drive Experience marquee to talk about home solar and battery systems and home EV charging solutions,” Mr Selwood said.
RAA Chief Strategy Officer and General Manager Home & Energy Ben Owen said South Australia’s peak motoring body is proud to partner with the BWSC, Eagers Automotive and Smart again to help educate the community about EVs and the future of sustainable transport.
“The RAA Drive Experience is the perfect opportunity for people to test drive an EV and become more familiar with the vehicles that are shaping our transport future.” Mr Owen said.
“While EVs make up 8.10% of all new cars sold in South Australia right now, industry forecasts the number of EVs on our roads will reach 120,000 full battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by 2030.
“We know more and more of our members are choosing to drive EVs and Hybrids and we’re always looking for opportunities to help educate the community, support our members and help drive the uptake of these vehicles.
“The electrification of transport is a crucial part of decarbonising our economy and state, transitioning to a low emissions transport future and making a South Australia that is safe, sustainable and liveable.
“The BWSC solar electric 3,000km contest from Darwin to Adelaide comes as RAA completes the state’s first border-to-border electric vehicle network featuring over 140 charging stations and 550 charging plugs across South Australia,” Mr Owen said.
The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge Village in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga is open from Thursday 28 August to Sunday 31 August 2025, with the RAA EV Drive Experience from Friday through to Sunday. South Australians can sign up for their free fully charged drive experience from today by visiting the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge website. As one of the highlights of the City of Adelaide finish line celebrations, it was fully booked out in 2023.
